4. What is out there?
Although the exact Zemerge idea might seem very radical there is nothing new about the underlying general concepts, they have been around for decades.
There are currently academic groups that are involved in Agent-based social simulation research around the globe.

- The European Social Simulation Association
- North American Association for Computational Social and Organization Sciences
How does the Zemerge Project differ from the above groups? for one its first aim is to raise interest in the general public and to recruit not just the academics and individuals with credentials but anyone who has the ideas, knowledge, and interest to contribute without any structured and confining hierarchy, its time these ideas go mainstream and Zemerge will attempt to get us there. Zemerge is also closely related to The Zeitgeist Movement for its shared goals and direction.
There are also open source and commercial software libraries used for conducting various modelling and simulations.
